About MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises is the world’s largest privately owned cruise line, founded by the Aponte family and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Operating a fleet of approximately 22–25 ships (and growing), MSC is best for:

  • European itinerary seekers — MSC operates one of the broadest Mediterranean programs of any cruise line, with year-round departures from multiple Italian, Spanish, and French ports
  • Value-focused cruisers — MSC consistently offers competitive base fares, particularly in European markets
  • Luxury travelers seeking value — The MSC Yacht Club is one of the best luxury-at-sea values in the industry
  • Families — MSC has a strong family infrastructure including Doremi kids clubs and dedicated family-oriented ships and sailings
  • Guests wanting a multicultural experience — MSC ships attract passengers from across Europe and the world, creating a genuinely international atmosphere

These three lines are all mainstream-category cruise lines, but they serve quite different experiences:

  • MSC — Most European in character; strongest Mediterranean itinerary program; MSC Yacht Club is a genuine luxury tier; modern fleet with ships like World Europa setting new technical standards. More formal than Carnival in style.
  • Costa — Most distinctly Italian; predominantly European passenger base; similar Mediterranean routes to MSC but an older fleet and less developed private island infrastructure.
  • Carnival — The American mainstream standard; most casual and entertainment-focused; best for short Caribbean sailings from US ports; minimal European presence.

For North Americans primarily sailing the Caribbean from US ports, MSC is building its presence but still less convenient than Carnival or Royal Caribbean. For European itineraries, MSC is a top-tier choice.

MSC’s fleet highlights include:

  • MSC World Europa (2022) — MSC’s flagship; LNG-powered; 6,762 guests; features the longest indoor water slide at sea, a Himalayan bridge, go-kart track, and the most technologically advanced MSC Yacht Club to date
  • MSC Seashore (2021) — Designed to maximize sea views; extended walkway overhanging the ocean; strong Mediterranean program from Port Canaveral
  • MSC Virtuosa (2021) — Features Zoe, an AI virtual assistant in every cabin; strong entertainment lineup
  • MSC Bellissima (2019) — One of the largest ships in the Mediterranean; flagship of the Meraviglia class

MSC structures its non-Yacht Club bookings across several experience levels that bundle different inclusions:

  • Bella — Entry level; basic cabin allocation, no dining time choice; most restrictive cancellation
  • Fantastica — Most popular choice; choice of dining time, guaranteed cabin category, flexible name changes
  • Aurea — Adds thermal spa access, premium drink package, choice of cabin location, priority boarding
  • Exclusive — Full drink and dining package, premium cabin selection, private butler, lounge access
For most guests, Fantastica is the right balance of flexibility and value. Aurea is excellent if you plan to use the spa and drink package daily.

MSC Yacht Club

The MSC Yacht Club is a premium “ship within a ship” concept available on most MSC vessels, occupying a private, keycard-access section of the ship. Yacht Club guests experience a completely different cruise from the rest of the ship:

  • A private sundeck with a dedicated pool, hot tubs, and bar — exclusively for Yacht Club guests
  • The Yacht Club Restaurant — full-service dining for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; exclusive to Yacht Club guests
  • Private lounge and library with concierge service
  • 24-hour butler service for all Yacht Club staterooms
  • Priority embarkation and disembarkation
  • All-inclusive beverages, Wi-Fi, and gratuities included
  • Concierge handles all dining reservations, shore excursions, and special requests
The Yacht Club is one of the best-value luxury propositions in cruising. Guests comparing it to Seabourn, Silversea, or Regent consistently report similar service quality at a fraction of the price. Ask Pavlus about current Yacht Club pricing.

Yacht Club suite categories vary by ship but typically include:

  • Deluxe Suite — Entry-level Yacht Club; private balcony; full access to all Yacht Club amenities
  • Grand Suite — Larger living space; expanded terrace; additional lounge area
  • Royal Suite — Top-level accommodation with premium positioning and expanded square footage
  • Duplex Suite — Available on some ships; two-story layout with spectacular views
Yacht Club cabins sell out on popular sailings months in advance. Contact Pavlus at 800-528-9300 early — especially for peak Mediterranean season (June–September).

The MSC Yacht Club is widely regarded as one of the best value propositions in premium/luxury cruising. When you factor in the included all-inclusive beverages (including alcohol), Wi-Fi, gratuities, butler service, exclusive pool and restaurant, and priority services, the effective premium over a standard MSC balcony cabin narrows considerably. For guests who would otherwise book a true luxury line (Oceania, Azamara, Silversea), the Yacht Club frequently delivers a comparable experience for meaningfully less money — making it an especially strong option for Pavlus clients upgrading from mainstream for the first time.

What’s Included

The base MSC fare (Bella or Fantastica level) includes:

  • Stateroom accommodation
  • Buffet and main restaurant meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
  • Most onboard entertainment and production shows
  • Pool, fitness center, and sports deck access
  • MSC Kids’ Club programming (Doremi Club)
  • Port taxes and fees
Drinks, gratuities, specialty restaurants, shore excursions, spa, and Wi-Fi are additional. All-inclusive beverage packages are available for purchase and are included at the Aurea level. The Fantastica level is most popular and adds dining time choice over Bella.

MSC applies an automatic daily service charge (gratuity) to all guest accounts, typically around $14–$16 USD per person per day on Caribbean sailings (European itineraries may differ slightly). This can be pre-paid at the time of booking or is charged to your onboard account daily. Yacht Club guests have gratuities included in their cabin rate. The Aurea experience level also includes gratuities.

MSC offers several drink package tiers:

  • Easy Package — Non-alcoholic beverages: soft drinks, juices, water, coffee
  • Classic Package — House wines, beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages from the standard list
  • Premium Extra Package — Premium spirits and cocktails, top-label wines by the glass, champagne; the most comprehensive option

The Aurea experience level includes the Premium Extra Package. Yacht Club guests receive all-inclusive beverages as part of their cabin rate.

MSC offers Wi-Fi packages sold by the device and duration (browse-only or streaming) or as voyage-long packages. Speed and quality vary by ship and sea area — Mediterranean itineraries in port-dense regions generally offer better connectivity than mid-ocean crossings. The Aurea experience level includes basic Wi-Fi. Yacht Club guests receive Wi-Fi as part of their all-inclusive package. For guests who need reliable connectivity for work, purchasing a package before sailing is recommended as onboard prices are higher.

Dining

MSC’s specialty restaurant lineup has grown significantly on newer ships:

  • The Butcher’s Cut — Premium steakhouse; a signature MSC venue across the fleet
  • Kaito Teppanyaki — Japanese tableside cooking
  • Kaito Sushi Bar — A la carte sushi and Japanese cuisine
  • Eataly — Partnership with the Italian food marketplace on MSC Bellissima, Grandiosa, and World Europa; high-quality Italian market-style dining
  • Ocean Cay Seafood Bar — Seafood-focused venue on select ships
  • Hola! Tacos & Cantina — Mexican casual dining on select ships

MSC’s main restaurant is included with all fare levels and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with waiter service. Fantastica and above experience levels allow guests to choose their preferred dining time (early or late seating). The Bella level assigns dining time without a choice. Tables are typically assigned and you return to the same table and servers each evening — this fosters the consistent service relationship that many guests enjoy. The menus rotate daily with both international and Mediterranean-influenced dishes.

Yes — MSC can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free diets with advance notice submitted through the pre-cruise booking portal. Kosher meals are available on select sailings and must be requested well in advance. Guests with severe allergies should contact MSC’s access services team before sailing. MSC’s international culinary team is experienced with diverse dietary requirements given the multinational passenger base.

Ocean Cay & Destinations

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is MSC’s private island in the Bahamas, opened in 2019 and built around a unique conservation mission. The island is:

  • Exclusively for MSC Cruises guests — no other cruise line visits
  • Formerly an industrial sand-extraction site that MSC restored to natural coral and sea habitat
  • Home to seven distinct beaches, water sports, a lighthouse that has become the island’s icon, and evening beach concerts
  • An ongoing marine conservation project — coral restoration and turtle monitoring programs
Ocean Cay is genuinely beautiful and uncrowded compared to busier private islands. Evening stays are particularly magical — select sailings anchor overnight for a sunset concert experience.

MSC’s itinerary coverage is among the broadest in the cruise industry:

  • Mediterranean — Western and Eastern Mediterranean year-round from Genoa, Civitavecchia (Rome), Barcelona, Marseille, Venice, and more; the core of the MSC program
  • Caribbean — Growing year-round presence from Miami and Port Canaveral; includes Ocean Cay calls
  • Northern Europe — Norwegian fjords, Baltic capitals, UK and Iceland
  • South America — Brazil, Argentina, and Amazon sailings
  • Middle East and Emirates — Dubai-based sailings (seasonal)
  • Asia, Africa, and World Voyages — True global coverage

Staterooms & Cabins

MSC cabin categories (outside the Yacht Club) include:

  • Interior — No window; most affordable
  • Oceanview — Fixed window; no outdoor space
  • Balcony — Private outdoor balcony; most popular category
  • Deluxe Balcony — Larger balcony and/or premium location (higher deck, better view)
  • Suite — Larger cabin with separate living area; may include Exclusive experience level benefits
  • MSC Yacht Club suites — Separate complex with ship-within-a-ship access

MSC periodically offers reduced or waived single supplements on select sailings and cabin categories — particularly in the European market where solo travel is more common. MSC does not have dedicated single-occupancy studios like Norwegian, but solo-friendly fares do appear on the schedule. Your Pavlus advisor can identify current solo promotions on MSC sailings when you call 800-528-9300.

Call us at 800-528-9300. Pavlus acts as your advocate with MSC. We handle modifications, pricing corrections, itinerary change concerns, and pre-cruise coordination on your behalf.

Yes. Pavlus advisors monitor active bookings for fare reductions before final payment. MSC’s pricing can fluctuate meaningfully as sailings approach — we’ll flag opportunities to reprice to a lower rate when they arise. Note that some MSC promotional fares carry stricter conditions; we confirm the repricing terms at booking so there are no surprises.

  • Travel dates and destination preference (Mediterranean, Caribbean, etc.)
  • Number of guests and ages
  • Interest level in MSC Yacht Club (yes/no)
  • Cabin type preference
  • Voyagers Club membership number(s) if applicable
  • Budget range per person
  • Any questions about experience levels (Bella vs. Fantastica vs. Aurea)
  • MSC Yacht Club — 9–12 months for peak Mediterranean season; Yacht Club inventory is limited and fills quickly
  • Peak Mediterranean season (June–September) — 6–12 months for best balcony selection
  • Caribbean sailings — 4–8 months for most categories; MSC sometimes offers strong late deals on Caribbean
  • World voyages and unique itineraries — 12+ months; limited capacity sells early
MSC’s Voyagers Club discount is applied at booking — always have your membership number ready to ensure your loyalty tier discount is captured.

Voyagers Club Loyalty

The MSC Voyagers Club has five tiers based on accumulated points (earned per night sailed and onboard spending):

  • Classic — Entry level; access to member-only offers and early booking notifications
  • Silver — Percentage discount on cruises; priority check-in at select ports
  • Gold — Increased cruise discount (up to 10%); complimentary amenities
  • Diamond — Up to 20% cruise discount; priority embarkation and disembarkation; complimentary upgrades when available
  • Black — By invitation only; maximum benefits and exclusive MSC events
MSC’s Voyagers Club discount is applied directly at booking — unlike some loyalty programs where benefits are only onboard perks, the MSC discount provides real cash savings on future sailings.

Onboard Activities & Family

MSC’s Doremi Club provides complimentary supervised programming for children divided into age groups: Mini Club (ages 3–6), Junior Club (ages 7–11), Young Club (ages 12–14), and Teen Club (ages 15–17). MSC has a strong family focus across its fleet, and select ships are specifically designated “family ships” with expanded kids programming, themed areas, and family-friendly entertainment. MSC has a partnership with LEGO on select sailings, offering LEGO-branded activities and programming for children — a particularly popular feature with younger guests.

MSC ships feature a MSC Aurea Spa on all vessels, offering a thermal area (sauna, steam room, heated pool, relaxation zones), a full treatment menu (massages, facials, body treatments), a beauty salon, and a fitness center. The thermal area is available for a per-day or per-voyage fee. Guests booking the Aurea experience level receive complimentary thermal spa access as part of their fare — one of the distinctive benefits of that tier. Treatments are priced individually and should be reserved early in the voyage.

MSC’s entertainment lineup reflects its international character:

  • Main theater shows — High-production variety shows featuring acrobatics, dance, illusion, and live music with multilingual appeal; typically two performances nightly
  • Cirque du Soleil at Sea — Available on select MSC ships; premium acrobatics and aerial performances (extra ticket fee may apply)
  • 4D Cinema and specialty entertainment venues on newer ships
  • MSC Virtuosa features Zoe, an AI virtual assistant in every cabin
  • Casino, live music venues, and bars across all ships
  • Sports facilities — Bowling alleys, F1 simulators, and sports courts on newer ships

MSC applies an automatic daily service charge to all guest accounts, typically around $14–$16 USD per person per day on Caribbean itineraries (European rates may differ slightly and are often charged in euros). This can be pre-paid at the time of booking. Gratuities are included for Yacht Club guests and for guests booking the Aurea experience level with its all-inclusive package. The Exclusive experience level also includes gratuities. Pre-paying gratuities is recommended for easier onboard budgeting.

MSC does not currently operate Alaska sailings. Their Northern European program includes Norwegian fjords, Iceland, the Baltic capitals (Tallinn, Helsinki, Stockholm, Copenhagen), and the British Isles — typically operated from Hamburg, Kiel, or Copenhagen during the summer season. These itineraries are popular with European guests and offer excellent value for North Americans looking to pair a European vacation with a Nordic cruise. For Alaska specifically, Princess Cruises is the stronger recommendation.

Yes — MSC offers annual World Cruise sailings, typically operating from January through April and visiting 40–60+ ports across multiple continents. World cruise segments are also available for guests who want to join for a specific leg rather than the full voyage. MSC’s world cruise pricing is competitive compared to traditional luxury world voyage lines, and the Yacht Club experience transforms the product into a genuinely premium offering for extended voyages. Book at least 12–18 months in advance — world cruise cabins sell steadily from announcement.
