Booking & Deposits

The easiest way is to call Pavlus Travel at 800-528-9300. Our specialists can search all available sailings, compare cabin categories and pricing, and apply any exclusive discounts or promotions on the spot.

Pavlus Advantage: As one of the largest sellers of Carnival in the U.S., Pavlus often has access to group space and onboard credit offers not available when booking directly.

Carnival’s standard deposit is typically $100 to $250 per person, depending on sailing length and cabin type. Suite bookings and longer voyages usually require a higher deposit. Your full balance is due 75 to 90 days before departure, depending on itinerary.

Ask your Pavlus advisor about Carnival’s Early Saver rates, which lock in lower fares in exchange for a slightly higher deposit and reduced refund flexibility.

Yes — Carnival allows reservations booked directly to be transferred to a travel agent within 30 days of the original booking date, provided the booking is not yet paid in full. Call us at 800-528-9300 and have your booking confirmation number handy.

If you booked under Carnival’s Early Saver rate, you are eligible for a price protection guarantee. If the same sailing and cabin category drops in price before final payment, you can submit a claim to receive onboard credit for the difference.

Note: Price protection does not apply to all rate types. Super Saver and past-guest rates have different rules. Your Pavlus advisor can explain which rate applies to your booking.

Cancellation penalties increase as your departure date approaches. A general guideline for standard sailings:

  • 76+ days before sailing: Deposit forfeited (or future cruise credit may apply)
  • 75–57 days: 50% of total fare
  • 56–29 days: 75% of total fare
  • 28 days or less: No refund

Policies vary by promotion and itinerary. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance at booking to protect your investment.

Absolutely. We recommend comprehensive travel insurance for every cruise vacation. A good policy covers trip cancellation, medical evacuation, missed embarkation, and emergency medical care — all of which can be costly without coverage.

Ask your Pavlus advisor about Carnival’s own CruiseCare plan or third-party options that may offer broader coverage.

Carnival offers several fare categories with different trade-offs:

  • Early Saver: Lower price locked in early; includes price protection (if fares drop, you get onboard credit for the difference); higher deposit required; non-refundable deposit
  • Super Saver: Often the lowest published rate, but no price protection, no stateroom location choice, and most restrictions on changes/cancellations
  • Early Saver (Past Guest / VIFP): Additional savings for loyalty members who book in advance
  • Flexible / Standard Rate: Higher price but more flexibility for modifications and cancellations
Your Pavlus advisor can walk you through the trade-offs and recommend the rate type that best matches your travel flexibility and budget.

It depends on your priorities:

  • Best cabin selection and pricing: Book 6–12 months in advance, especially for sailings during school holidays, spring break, and summer
  • Best Early Saver deals: Available up to 18 months before sailing; the earlier you book, the more price-drop protection coverage you have
  • Last-minute deals: Carnival occasionally drops prices on unsold inventory close to departure, but cabin selection will be very limited
Wave Season (January–February) is often the best time to find strong promotions. Your Pavlus advisor monitors these deals and can alert you when the right offer appears.

What’s Included

Your base Carnival fare includes:

  • Stateroom accommodation
  • Main dining room meals & buffet (Lido Marketplace)
  • Room service (basic items, limited hours)
  • Most onboard entertainment (shows, live music, comedy, deck parties)
  • Use of pools, hot tubs, sports courts, fitness center, and waterslides
  • Kids’ Club programs (Camp Ocean)
  • Port stops & port taxes/fees (as listed in your booking)

Common additional costs include:

  • Gratuities/service charges (pre-paid or added daily to your onboard account)
  • Alcoholic beverages and specialty coffees/sodas
  • Specialty dining restaurants (Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse, Bonsai Sushi, etc.)
  • Shore excursions
  • Spa services
  • Casino gaming
  • Internet / Wi-Fi packages
  • Photos and gift shop purchases

Carnival charges an automatic daily gratuity added to your onboard account:

  • Interior, Oceanview & Balcony cabins: Approximately $18–$20 per person, per day
  • Suite guests: Slightly higher rate

These gratuities are shared among your cabin steward, dining team, and other crew. You may also tip additional cash directly to crew members at your discretion. Pre-paying gratuities before sailing is an option and can simplify your onboard budget.

CHEERS! is Carnival’s all-inclusive drink package covering beer, wine, spirits, cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages up to $20 per drink. It is priced per person per day and must be purchased by all guests 21+ in the same stateroom.

Is it worth it? If you plan to have 5–6 drinks per day (including specialty coffees and juices), the package typically pays for itself. Your Pavlus advisor can help you calculate whether it makes sense for your travel style.

CHEERS! can often be purchased at a discount before sailing vs. onboard pricing. Gratuity on all drinks is included in the package price.

Carnival offers Wi-Fi packages through their HUB app. Plans range from social media–only packages to full internet plans priced per day. Purchasing before you sail is typically cheaper than buying onboard.

Connectivity varies by ship position and satellite availability — speeds are generally sufficient for messaging, email, and light browsing but may not support streaming or video calls reliably at sea.

Dining

Carnival offers three main dining seating options:

  • Early Dining: Typically 6:00 PM — same table and waitstaff each night
  • Late Dining: Typically 8:15 PM — same table and waitstaff each night
  • Your Time Dining (Anytime Dining): Flexible seating between approximately 5:45–9:30 PM; reservations recommended

Beyond the main dining room, the Lido Marketplace buffet is open most of the day, and multiple casual options (Guy’s Burger Joint, BlueIguana Cantina, pizza, deli) are available at no extra charge on most ships.

Specialty dining varies by ship but commonly includes:

  • Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse — USDA prime cuts, additional fee (~$35/person)
  • Bonsai Sushi — a la carte or set menus, additional fee
  • Cucina del Capitano — Italian family-style dining, additional fee
  • JiJi Asian Kitchen — Pan-Asian cuisine, additional fee
  • Seafood Shack — casual seafood by the piece
Not all restaurants are on every ship. Check your specific ship’s dining options when booking.

Yes — Carnival can accommodate most dietary needs with advance notice. Their culinary team handles gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan, and low-sodium requests routinely. More complex needs like severe allergies or kosher meals should be communicated at least 60 days before sailing.

Let your Pavlus advisor know about dietary needs when booking so the request is noted in your reservation from the start.

Carnival offers 24-hour room service. A limited continental breakfast menu is complimentary; most other items carry a small delivery fee (typically $5 per order). Full menus are available in your stateroom and through the HUB app.

In addition to the main dining room and Lido Marketplace buffet, most Carnival ships include several complimentary casual venues:

  • Guy’s Burger Joint — Celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s fresh-ground burger concept; no extra charge
  • BlueIguana Cantina — Fresh Mexican with burritos, tacos, and toppings bar; no extra charge
  • Pizza Pirate — 24-hour pizza available on all ships; no extra charge
  • Deli — Made-to-order sandwiches and salads; no extra charge on most ships
  • Big Chicken — Guy Fieri’s chicken sandwich concept on newer Excel-class ships; no extra charge

The Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast is a paid specialty dining experience offered on Carnival ships with Seuss at Sea programming. Guests dine alongside beloved Dr. Seuss characters in a whimsical setting inspired by The Cat in the Hat and other Seuss classics. It is particularly popular with families traveling with young children.

Reservations are required and the experience has an additional cover charge. Ask your Pavlus advisor to note this request when booking so you can secure a reservation as early as possible.

Onboard Life

Carnival is known for its lively onboard atmosphere. Included entertainment typically includes:

  • Broadway-style theatrical shows and Playlist Productions
  • Hasbro: The Game Show (game show events)
  • Live music throughout the ship day and night
  • Punchliner Comedy Club performances (some 18+ shows)
  • Dive-In Movies (movies poolside on LED screen)
  • Deck parties, themed nights, and competitions
  • Pools, waterslides (WaterWorks), mini-golf, sports courts, and fitness center
  • Casino (gaming charges apply)

Carnival’s Camp Ocean program is free and designed for children ages 2–11, divided into three age groups: Penguins (2–5), Sting Rays (6–8), and Sharks (9–11). Activities are supervised and age-appropriate.

  • Circle C: For tweens ages 12–14
  • Club O2: For teens ages 15–17
  • Seuss at Sea: Dr. Seuss–themed activities, onboard character interactions, and the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast (select ships)

Evening babysitting is available for a per-hour fee. Youth programming hours vary by sea day vs. port day.

Yes — all Carnival ships have casinos with slot machines, table games (blackjack, roulette, poker), and more. The minimum age to enter the casino and consume alcohol is 21 for U.S. sailings. Casinos are typically open only when the ship is at sea (not in port per local regulations).

Casino Royale: Carnival’s casino loyalty program offers rewards and reduced-rate fares to frequent casino guests. Ask your Pavlus advisor about Casino Royale rates if you plan to spend time at the tables.

The Cloud 9 Spa on most Carnival ships offers massages, facials, body wraps, teeth whitening, and salon services. Thermal Suite day passes are available for an additional fee. Booking appointments in advance (especially for sea days) is recommended to secure preferred times.

Carnival uses an assigned arrival time system through their online check-in (available 14 days before sailing). You must complete online check-in to receive your boarding pass and select an arrival window.

  • Check-in typically opens 1:30–2:00 hours before your arrival window
  • Have your boarding pass, government ID, and payment card ready
  • Luggage can be checked with porters at the pier; carry onboard what you need for the first afternoon
  • Staterooms are usually ready by 1:30–2:00 PM
Arriving outside your assigned window may result in longer waits. Priority boarding is available for suite guests and Platinum/Diamond VIFP members.

Carnival’s Excel-class ships represent the line’s largest and most feature-rich vessels. The three ships in this class — Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, and Carnival Jubilee — introduced several industry firsts:

  • BOLT: Ultimate Sea Coaster — The first roller coaster at sea, on the top deck of Mardi Gras (and similar on Jubilee)
  • Six themed “zones” dividing the ship into distinct neighborhoods with different entertainment, bar, and dining concepts
  • Expanded specialty dining including the Big Chicken, Emeril’s Bistro, 831 cocktail bar, and more
  • LNG-powered propulsion — the most environmentally advanced ships in Carnival’s fleet

Excel-class ships homeport from Miami, Galveston (TX), and Port Canaveral (FL). Call Pavlus at 800-528-9300 to compare sailings on these ships.

The best ship for first-timers depends on your home port, budget, and what matters most:

  • Excel-class (Mardi Gras, Jubilee, Celebration): Best for guests who want the most amenities, the newest ships, and unique features like BOLT. Homeports: Miami, Galveston, Port Canaveral
  • Sunshine, Breeze, Vista, Horizon: Mid-generation ships with a strong balance of features and price; widely available from many U.S. ports
  • Older Conquest/Spirit/Dream class: Lower fares, strong base experience; may lack some newer features like waterworks or Guy’s Burger
Your Pavlus advisor can match you to the right ship based on your departure port, budget, and interests — call 800-528-9300 for a free consultation.

Staterooms

Carnival offers four main cabin categories:

  • Interior: No window; most affordable; ideal for guests who plan to spend little time in the room
  • Oceanview: A porthole or picture window; natural light without a balcony
  • Balcony: Private outdoor space; highly recommended for longer sailings
  • Suite: Larger living spaces, priority boarding, enhanced service, and exclusive amenities depending on ship and suite level

Carnival also offers spa-adjacent staterooms and cove balconies (lower deck, more private) on many ships.

Carnival allows each guest 21+ to bring one bottle of wine or Champagne (750ml) per person in their carry-on at embarkation only. Beer, spirits, and additional wine are not permitted to be brought onboard.

Alcohol purchased at ports of call will be held by Carnival and returned to you on the last night of the cruise.

Yes. Most staterooms offer twin beds that can be converted to a king configuration. You can note your preference when booking through Pavlus Travel. While cabin stewards do their best to accommodate requests, they cannot always be guaranteed — especially at peak occupancy.

Carnival is one of the more solo-friendly mainstream lines. Options include:

  • Single supplement on a standard cabin: Typically 150–200% of the per-person double-occupancy rate; this is the most common option
  • Interior staterooms on select sailings: Carnival occasionally offers reduced single supplements on specific itineraries — your Pavlus advisor monitors these
  • Some ships have studio-style staterooms designed and priced for single occupancy
Call Pavlus at 800-528-9300 to find current reduced single-supplement sailings and compare your options.

Ports & Excursions

Both have trade-offs:

  • Carnival excursions are vetted for safety and carry a ship-holds-for-you guarantee — if the excursion runs late, the ship will wait. They are typically priced higher.
  • Independent operators can offer smaller group sizes and lower prices, but if you miss the ship, you are responsible for catching up to it at the next port at your own cost.
For first-time visitors to a port, Carnival excursions offer peace of mind. For experienced travelers who know the destination, independent options can be excellent value.

Your daily Fun Times schedule (and the HUB app) lists departure and all-aboard times for each port. The all-aboard time is typically 30 minutes before departure. Guests who miss the ship are responsible for their own transportation to the next port.

Always keep your ship’s departure time and your cabin number handy when ashore. Set a reminder on your phone as a backup.

Carnival Corporation (Carnival’s parent company) operates several private destination experiences:

  • Celebration Key — Carnival’s newest private island in the Bahamas (Grand Bahama Island), opened 2024, featuring lagoons, cabanas, and resort-style amenities
  • Half Moon Cay — A private island in The Bahamas shared with other Carnival Corporation brands; quiet, beach-forward
  • Amber Cove — A private port in the Dominican Republic with pools and local experiences

Carnival sails from more U.S. home ports than any other cruise line, making it easy to drive to your departure point and skip the flight. Major ports include:

  • Miami, FL — Year-round sailings; home of Mardi Gras
  • Port Canaveral, FL — Near Orlando; popular for Disney & cruise combos; home of Carnival Jubilee
  • Tampa, FL — Convenient for west Florida guests
  • Galveston, TX — The largest Gulf of Mexico cruise port; home of Carnival Celebration
  • New Orleans, LA — Unique sailings with a cultural departure city
  • Baltimore, MD — Drive-to option for Mid-Atlantic guests
  • Norfolk, VA; Charleston, SC; Mobile, AL; Jacksonville, FL; and several others

Documents & Prep

It depends on the itinerary:

  • Closed-loop sailings (departing and returning to the same U.S. port): U.S. citizens may use a government-issued photo ID plus an original birth certificate. However, a passport is still strongly recommended in case of a medical emergency requiring air travel home.
  • Open-jaw sailings (different embarkation and disembarkation ports, or international ports as home port): A valid passport is required.
Our recommendation: Always travel with a valid passport. Passports should be valid for at least 6 months beyond your return date.

Carnival’s online check-in opens 14 days before sailing. Completing it as soon as it opens lets you select an earlier arrival time slot and get your boarding pass ready. You’ll need to upload a photo, enter travel document details, and set up your onboard account payment method.

Carnival has also moved its muster drill safety briefing to an e-muster format — you complete the safety video via the HUB app before boarding, making embarkation day much smoother.

Carnival is casual-to-smart-casual by nature. Typical guidelines:

  • Casual evenings: Jeans, slacks, blouses, polos — collared shirts preferred in the main dining room at dinner
  • Cruise Elegant nights: Cocktail attire, suits, or dressy separates (typically 1–2 per sailing); tuxedos are rare but welcome
  • Pool deck / daytime: Swimwear, cover-ups, casual wear

No shorts or swimwear in the main dining room at dinner. Shoes are required in all dining venues.

The Carnival HUB App is free to download and highly recommended. It works on the ship’s onboard Wi-Fi at no charge for basic features. Key functions include:

  • Daily activities schedule (Fun Times)
  • Dining reservations and menus
  • Ship map and wayfinding
  • Onboard messaging with other guests in your party
  • Folio (onboard account) tracking
  • E-muster drill completion
  • Shore excursion booking

VIFP Loyalty Program

VIFP stands for Very Important Fun Person — Carnival’s free loyalty program that rewards you with more benefits the more you sail. Tiers are based on total cruise days sailed with Carnival:

  • Blue: First-time Carnival guests (first sailing)
  • Red: 2–4 sailings
  • Gold: 5–24 sailings
  • Platinum: 25–74 sailings
  • Diamond: 75+ sailings

Benefits increase with each tier and can include priority check-in, complimentary beverages, specialty restaurant discounts, complimentary laundry, and Casino Royale rewards.

Platinum and Diamond guests enjoy Carnival’s best loyalty perks:

  • Priority boarding and check-in (arrive earlier than assigned window)
  • Complimentary laundry service (bag per cabin) on most sailings
  • Complimentary specialty dining credit (Diamond)
  • Free bottle of wine or Champagne upon embarkation
  • Free internet minutes (varies by tier)
  • Exclusive cocktail parties and recognition events
  • Casino match play credits
Benefits are subject to change. Current details are listed in your VIFP account. Pavlus advisors can help ensure your VIFP number is linked to your booking.

VIFP status is earned based on the number of cruise days completed with Carnival. Every night you spend onboard counts — a 7-night cruise earns 7 days toward your tier. There is no annual reset; days accumulate over your lifetime of Carnival sailings.

Booking through a travel agency like Pavlus does not affect VIFP earning — just ensure your VIFP membership number is included on the booking. Your Pavlus advisor will add it for you at the time of reservation.

Yes — Carnival regularly offers exclusive Past Guest Rate promotions for VIFP members. These rates are often equal to or better than publicly available Early Saver fares and may include additional onboard credit or perks.

Your Pavlus advisor monitors past-guest promotions and can search available rates against your VIFP number to ensure you always get the best eligible price. Call 800-528-9300 to ask about current past-guest offers.

Families & Groups

Carnival has earned its reputation as the “Fun Ship” line in large part because of how well it caters to families:

  • Camp Ocean — Free supervised kids’ program for ages 2–11, divided by age group
  • Teen clubs (Circle C for 12–14; Club O2 for 15–17) keep older kids engaged
  • WaterWorks aqua parks with multi-story slides, splash pads, and racing slides on nearly every ship
  • Seuss at Sea with Dr. Seuss character experiences and the Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast
  • Affordable pricing with kids-sail-free promotions offered regularly
  • Multigenerational value — enough activities for every age from toddler to grandparent

Carnival defines a group as 8 or more paying guests in a minimum number of staterooms (typically 5). Group benefits can include:

  • Reduced per-person fares
  • Amenity points redeemable for onboard credit, cabin upgrades, or cocktail parties
  • One complimentary berth (varies by group size)
  • Priority dining and event space

Pavlus Travel has dedicated group space on select Carnival sailings. Call 800-528-9300 to discuss group options and get a custom quote.

Yes — Carnival periodically runs promotions where children sail at a significantly reduced rate or free (third/fourth guests in a cabin). These are among the most popular deals Carnival offers and tend to sell out quickly. Your Pavlus advisor monitors these promotions and can alert you as soon as they appear.

Children under 6 months of age are not permitted to sail on Carnival. Children between 6 months and 2 years of age require the purchase of a cabin berth.

Pavlus Travel has been booking Carnival cruises and is one of the top-volume Carnival sellers in the United States. Our advisors have personal, hands-on knowledge of Carnival’s fleet — many have sailed on multiple Carnival ships themselves — and receive regular product training directly from Carnival.

When you call 800-528-9300, you’ll be connected with a specialist who knows Carnival’s ships, home ports, promotions, and loyalty program inside and out.

When you book with Pavlus, you gain a dedicated advocate. If any issue arises — pricing errors, cabin assignment problems, itinerary changes, or onboard concerns — your Pavlus advisor contacts Carnival directly on your behalf. Our longstanding relationship and volume with Carnival means issues are often resolved more quickly than when guests contact Carnival independently.

Our advisors are available seven days a week at 800-528-9300, including weekends and holidays.

Yes. If you find a lower price for the same Carnival sailing, cabin category, and promotional terms anywhere else, share the details with your Pavlus advisor and we’ll match it. Additionally, if you booked under Early Saver rates and the price drops, we will submit the price protection claim on your behalf with Carnival to ensure you receive onboard credit for the difference.

To make your booking call as smooth as possible, have the following ready:

  • Travel dates or a preferred sailing (ship, itinerary, or month)
  • Number of guests and ages of all travelers (including children)
  • Preferred departure port or home city (so we can suggest the closest port)
  • Cabin type preference (interior, balcony, suite — or “best value”)
  • VIFP past-guest number if you have one, to access loyalty rates
  • Credit card for deposit
  • Passports or travel document info (required for booking)

Not sure about any of these? That’s fine — your Pavlus advisor will help you sort through every decision. Call 800-528-9300.

The sweet spot for most Carnival bookings is 6–12 months in advance. This gives you the best selection of sailings, cabin categories, and departure dates while also allowing time to monitor for price drops under Early Saver rate protection.

  • Peak sailings (summer, spring break, school holidays, Excel-class ships): Book 9–12 months out for best cabin selection
  • Wave Season (January–February): Carnival’s strongest annual promotions — Pavlus monitors these closely and will reach out to clients with relevant offers
  • Last-minute deals: Occasionally available 4–6 weeks before departure on sailings with unsold inventory, but expect limited cabin choices

Yes — and it pays real cash. When you refer a friend or family member who books and travels through Pavlus on any cruise (including Carnival), you receive a $250 check mailed directly to you. There are no points, no gimmicks — just cash for sharing a brand you trust. Full terms are on the Referral Program page.

Comparing Carnival

All three are mainstream lines with similar pricing, but each has a distinct personality:

  • Carnival — Lively, fun, value-focused; strongest family and first-timer reputation; best network of U.S. departure ports; most casual atmosphere
  • Royal Caribbean — More emphasis on onboard engineering feats (largest ships, rock climbing, surf simulators); slightly more polished experience; strong for adventure-seekers
  • Norwegian (NCL) — Flexible dining (Freestyle) with no set dining times; more nightlife and entertainment-forward; strong specialty dining program
Not sure which line fits your group best? Call Pavlus at 800-528-9300 — because we sell all three, you’ll get a completely unbiased recommendation.

Carnival has steadily upgraded its fleet under the Fun Ship 2.0 refurbishment program and by launching new Excel-class ships. Key differences:

  • Excel-class (Mardi Gras, Celebration, Jubilee): Largest ships in the fleet; LNG-powered; BOLT roller coaster; six themed zones; most dining options; newest technology
  • Vista/Horizon/Panorama class: Midsize modern ships; excellent range of features including Havana deck for premium guests; strong dining lineup
  • Older Conquest/Dream/Spirit class: Smaller, more intimate; all received Fun Ship 2.0 upgrades; fewer specialty venues but solid value

Your Pavlus advisor can compare specific ships side by side based on your departure port and priorities.

Carnival is the right choice if you want great value, a lively atmosphere, convenient U.S. departure ports, and strong family programming. It may not be the best fit if you prefer a quieter ambiance, more refined dining, or destination-immersive itineraries.

If you’re curious about premium alternatives like Princess, Celebrity, or Holland America — all available through Pavlus — your advisor can walk you through the differences honestly. Call 800-528-9300 for a no-pressure comparison.
